Nintendo Switch Hardware News: Big Production Ambitions? Posted on 03/05/2021 at 12:12 With more than 80 million consoles sold worldwide, the Nintendo Switch is a huge hit for Nintendo, having excelled years after the WiiU went down. Nintendo doesn’t want to stop there, however, and seems to have big ambitions. Takashi Mochizuki, reporter for Bloomberg, highlights a new report from Nikkei that was also picked up by VGC. Recently, Nintendo announced that it feared the semiconductor shortage that is currently affecting many industries and claims it has enough inventory to expect. That fear does not appear to be reflected in the company’s planning, which would have shown its various partners an intention to produce and distribute 30 million Switches by March 31, 2022. Nintendo was asked about the matter but did not want to speak. This gigantic ambition, which would lead the console beyond the 110 million distributed consoles, could collide with the current bottleneck problems and Nvidia’s desire to stop production of the Tegra X1 chips attached to the console. The question of the so-called “Pro” switch remains unanswered, but Nikkei is pushing the idea that it might arrive soon.
