News Business CD Projekt – Numbers on the rise for The Witcher 3 and records for Cyberpunk 2077 Posted on April 22nd, 2021 at 7:15 pm, updated on April 22nd, 2021 at 7:16 pm Last week and more precisely on April 15th shared us CD Projekt with a preview of its forecast for 2020. Today the Polish studio, best known for offering players The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, returns to this report with much more accurate numbers.
Cyberpunk 2077 – Rocky start, but nice results
Just a few days ago, CD Projekt Red estimated that by 2020 it had sold more than 13 million copies of its latest creation Cyberpunk 2077 worldwide. The Polish studio hasn’t been far from the truth since today’s hui, the exact numbers have just fallen and we learn that the title has finally sold more than 13.7 million copies. This feat in particular made it possible for the title to become the greatest game in CD Projekt Red history, or even the greatest RPG launch in video game history. Of course, the game that gave V the opportunity to explore the city of Night City quickly paid off its development costs, which amounted to PLN 1.2 billion or EUR 263 million. This has been a particularly busy time for us, culminating with the release of the biggest project in The 26 Year History of CD Projekt. Thanks to the great efforts of the entire team, we have managed to bring a new franchise onto the market. However, with the release itself clearly not everything went as planned. It was a great lesson for us that we will never forget, but I believe now is the time to look to the future. We remain ambitious and are doing everything we can to bring Cyberpunk 2077 to a level where everyone can enjoy the game, regardless of the gaming platform. Adam Kiciński, President and Co-CEO of CD Projekt Group Despite a particularly expensive development, the title, As Adam Kiciński so well points out above, had a complicated start. Unfortunately, the role-playing game contained a lot of bugs on consoles and especially on the Fat PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. Bold versions that slowly improve with the release of new patches. But unfortunately the damage is done, and for that first reason, the title has not sold as well on consoles. In fact, PC version sales account for 56% of Cyberpunk 2077 sales, and only 28% and 17% of gamers play on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, respectively.
The Witcher 3 – A new must-see record for the role-playing game
CD Projekt apparently used its latest financial report to focus on its former goose who laid the golden eggs. This is obviously The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which still creates so much passion. The title, which was already a great success in 2017, 2018 and 2019, shows another increase in sales. Conclusion: The title has its second record year here. The first remains in 2015 when the software was released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It should be noted that total sales of the title have exceeded 30 million copies since its inception and that of the video game trilogy is more than 50 million units worldwide. The Witcher 3 had the second best year in its history in terms of number of copies sold – it only got better when it launched almost 6 years ago. In 2020, The Witcher 3 sold more than 30 million copies, while the entire trilogy sold over 50 million copies.
